Well, it seems like I have just not felt like writing this year. I think it was the 5 and a half months of water difficulties after the well went dry in mid-October last year. Oh, the stories I could tell of broken pipes, sewer clogs, black water in the hot water heater and more. . . I have entertained a number of groups with the saga.
All is well now. The retreat center has had water without problems since April now. And there has been lots of rain to replenish the old well, if we ever need to go back to it.
The other good news is that Tallgrass Spiritual Retreat Center also has a new address. I'm thinking folks from the city will feel less nervous about coming to a place with a real address instead of a Rural Route Box #. The new address is 1780 Thurman Creek Road (I'm going to have to repaint the mailbox).
Seeing as I'm a bit of an address snob, it's a good thing I like the new address! I once lived at 329 Sunset Dr. Doesn't that have a nice, consoling ring to it? I'm thankful not to live at an address that's 5 digits long. I think numbers like 11236 or 11785 are too hard to remember. I think that's one reason I liked "329." Simple . . . easy to remember. Some folks out here live on streets named after letters of the alphabet. Streets named "S", and "R" and "WP." Thurman Creek Road comes from a real creek called. . . yes, Thurman Creek. The street name is based in the geography of the area. I like that - a lot! So for those of you who haven't been to Tallgrass Spiritual Retreat Center, come see us at 1780 Thurman Creek Road. And for those of you who have been here before . . . no, we haven't moved! Come see for yourself!
This weekend we had the first Wildflower Walk out here. It was led by Marva Weigelt, a local woman who knows her wildflowers! She had a marvelous PowerPoint presentation Friday night of all the flowers she has photographed over the past year. She also included information like it's Latin name, the season it blooms, whether the flower was used for medicinal purposes or for food, and any interesting tidbits she discovered in her research. The women who attended were all avid flower watcher, so it was more of a "let's share information," rather than having one "know-it-all" - I mean expert. They spent both the morning and the afternoon out in the pastures identifying flowers and finding new ones. Butterfly identification was part of the day, as well. My hope is to have more women come for this event in the future. It is well worth the time to come to the country! Marva tells me she will work with already formed groups of 6 who would like to plan there own event and set their own date to come do a Flower and Butterfly Walk.
There's lots more to do and time to just be out where the flowers and butterfiles live - 1780 Thurman Creek Road, Matfield Green, KS!
